Wake Up! Speak Out! with poets: Jeanann Verlee, Jamaal May, Tarfia Faizullah and Rabbit Wilde.
Open to the Public sessions from 2:30 to the evening Gathering of Poets: All Festival Poets read one poem: One Poem. Two Minutes
All sessions beginning at 8 am and ending at the Festival 10 PM.
This ticket includes ALL Festival sessions except workshops and Poet’s Soiree
Skagit River Poetry Festival: Wake Up! Speak Out
Thursday May 19, 8-10:00 PM
The popular festival opens with a literary bang on May 19, when celebrated spoken word poets take the stage in a program called “Wake Up. Speak Out,” challenging and provoking audiences with new poetic ideas and forms.
Participants include Jeanann Verlee, who has represented New York City ten times at the National Poetry Slam, Individual World Poetry Slam, and Women of the World Poetry Slam; Jamaal May, Detroit poet and poet and filmmaker, Tarfia Faizullah, poet.
Daemond Arrindell, poet, performer and teacher & Matt Gano Seattle Grand Slam champion will Emcee this event.
Music with Rabbit Wilde.

Skagit River Poetry Festival: Poet’s Soiree
Thursday May 19, 5-7:30 PM
Events include a Thursday night Soiree extravaganza, a mixer with festival artists that includes wine and delicious locally sourced hors d’oeuvres.
A great way to get to know the poets personally and enjoy delicious treats.
Skagit River Poetry Festival - Afternoon & Evening Events
Friday, May 20, 2:30 PM & 7:30 PM
After the students leave, the Festival opens at 2:30 to the general public with:
A Poetry Sampler with Kasey Jueds, Paul Hansen and Norman Fischer
And two panel discussions:
- Poet as Social Conscience with Garth Martens, Lorna Dee Cervantes and Jan Zwicky
- How Poetry Helps Us Live our Lives with poets Daemond Arrindell, Martha Silano and Garrett Hongo.
At 7:30: A Gathering of Voices. One Poem. Two Minutes
All festival poets read one poem. A great introduction into the sessions for Saturday. If you can’t do a full day, this is the perfect Sampler for you!
