Carolyne Wright teaches “Ravishing Disunities: Writing Like Agha Shahid Ali” at the Hugo House, 1634 11th Avenue in Seattle on Saturday, Jan. 28, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $86.40 for Hugo House members: $96 general public. The course explores the traditions and formal hallmarks of the ghazal, a courtly Arabic, Persian and Urdu form, as practiced by Hafiz, Ghalib, Faiz and more recently by the late, beloved Kashmiri-American poet, Agha Shahid Ali, who introduced the “real ghazal” form in English.
